Compare · Apollo.io

Looking for a more flexible alternative to Apollo? Here's how we differ.

Apollo packs search, sequences, dialer, and enrichment into one platform. That's powerful — and heavy. Vatengi is for teams who want accurate contact data and a clean prospecting workspace without paying for features they'll never open.

50 signup credits · Email reveal: 1 credit · Phone reveal: 3 credits · Starter from $39/mo

SMTP receipts in the product — not just marketing copy

  • Every email reveal stores deliverability_status (valid, catch_all, risky, invalid) from a live RCPT probe.
  • Exports can include SMTP status code, catch-all flag, verification score, and verified_at timestamp.
  • CRM and Clay handoffs pass vatengi_deliverability_status alongside the email address.
  • Credits debit only after a successful reveal — search and filter stay free.

Two different bets on how prospecting should work.

Apollo.io's bet

Own the entire outbound stack. One login, one bill, one database.

Vatengi's bet

Do fewer things, but do the hard part properly. Search should be free. Reveals should cost credits only when you pull contact data. "Verified" should mean we SMTP-checked the mailbox.

Apollo optimizes for platform breadth. We optimize for reachability — right person, current employer, email that survives step one of your sequence.

We built for teams tired of burning credits on contacts that bounce, navigating a UI deep enough to need its own certification, and exporting CSVs because the integration is really a workaround.

Three areas where we differ

Based on how our product is actually built — not a generic feature checklist.

1. Email verification (not confidence theater)

Where our reveal engine is genuinely different.

Apollo.io Vatengi
Model Large vendor database + verification signals Employer-domain SMTP probe + coworker pattern inference
Credit spend Often on lookup/enrichment 1 credit on successful work-email reveal only
Transparency Confidence/status varies by source SMTP result surfaced in-app; catch-all and disposable domains flagged

Under the hood: ContactRevealService resolves the current employer domain, builds candidates from coworker patterns (EmailPatternInferenceService), probes MX hosts, and debits an immutable ledger entry.

Honest caveat: Apollo's database is bigger. If your motion is spray a huge TAM and eat the bounces, Apollo's volume play can still work.

2. Search-first list building

Qualify before you spend.

Apollo.io Vatengi
Workflow Search → save → enrich → export/sequence Search free → qualify → reveal → list → CRM/sequence
Filters Broad title, company, tech filters 30+ dimensions including job-change recency, account signals, HQ radius
Credits while browsing Can burn on enrichment actions Zero until you click Reveal

Under the hood: PeopleDirectoryFilterState powers the same filter engine as POST /v1/people/search.

Honest caveat: Apollo's sequences and dialer are native. If you want one tool for call + email + LinkedIn automation, Apollo's scope is wider.

3. Post-reveal lifecycle

What happens after you pull the email.

Apollo.io Vatengi
Job changes Enrichment refresh (varies) LinkedIn enrichment + workspace notification on revealed contacts
Intent/signals Built-in intent topics Account signals + account watchlists + workflow rules
Team governance Per-seat platform fee Shared credit pool, roles, reveal audit trail

Under the hood: Job-change events warm fresh email guesses at the new employer and notify teams who previously revealed that contact.

Honest caveat: If your team lives in Apollo Sequences all day, switching costs are real.

Stick with Apollo.io if

  • You want one platform for dialer + sequences + email + database and you'll use all of it.
  • You need Apollo's intent data and technographic filters at enterprise scale.
  • Your team is already trained on Apollo and migration pain outweighs bounce-rate pain.

Try Vatengi if

  • You're a 3–25 person outbound team bleeding time on bounced emails.
  • You want to search and qualify before spending credits.
  • You need SMTP-transparent reveals, job-change alerts, and CRM push without platform bloat.

Who Vatengi is generally not for

We'd rather tell you upfront than waste your trial credits.

  • You need a Chrome extension for two-click LinkedIn reveals — we're workspace-first today.
  • You need the largest global database and don't care how verification works under the hood.
  • You're a 500-seat enterprise buying through procurement with custom MSAs and dedicated CSMs.
  • You want cold email sending at scale as the core product — Instantly and SalesHandy own that layer.
  • You want to waterfall 15 enrichment APIs in a spreadsheet — Clay and Databar own that layer.
  • You need EU mobile numbers with GDPR packaging as the primary value — Cognism territory.
  • You're a 3–25 person agile outbound team bleeding time on bounced emails.
  • You want to search free and reveal on verified SMTP, not prepay for a black-box database.
  • You need lists, CRM push, job-change alerts, and account signals without five subscriptions.
  • You want monthly self-serve pricing starting at $39, not an annual enterprise commit.
